What we are
Lily of the Valley was initially established in 1993 in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic as a hospice for children in the KWAZULU-NATAL area, providing palliative care. With proper loving care and the accessibility of ARV’s, many children began to recover and our focus started shifting from preparing children for death, to preparing them for life with a future. Over the years as the children grew up, the needs changed and became more varied and this short-term project became an ongoing one, needing continuous funding and assistance.
Lily of the Valley registered as a Non-profit Organisation in 2000 and is also registered as a Child and Youth Care Centre with the Department of Social Development, caring for and raising orphaned and vulnerable children. We are able to accommodate up to 75 children. We currently have 80 children in our care.
What we do
Lily of the Valley provides a loving home for up to 85 children. Children live in homes of up to 8 children per home with a house mother. Each child is loved, cared for and given every opportunity to lead a successful life.
Together, these four pillars form the foundation of everything we do as we work towards one vision: Building Brighter Futures.
-
We believe every child has been created by God with a unique purpose and a hopeful future. Inspired by Jeremiah 29:11, we nurture each child's spiritual journey through Christian values, discipleship, prayer, and the love of a family environment, helping them discover who they are and who God has called them to be.
-
Healthy children are better equipped to learn, grow, and reach their full potential. We provide nutritious meals, quality medical care, emotional support, and opportunities for sport and recreation, ensuring every child is cared for physically, mentally, and emotionally.
-
Education is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child. We strive to provide access to quality, fee-paying schools wherever possible, along with academic support, tutoring, career guidance, and life skills, equipping each young person to build a brighter future.
-
Children flourish in environments where they feel safe, loved, and valued. We create homes that offer stability, security, and belonging, while fostering positive relationships, emotional wellbeing, and spaces where children can heal, grow, and dream again.
